Mercy Gets a Big Change in Current Overwatch Update
|
Anyone who has watched Overwatch esports events or played the game has noticed that Mercy had a significant change in recent time. Her original ultimate was her Resurrect feature that revives a fallen team member. That ultimate was changed to the Valkyrie where she moves faster, has a reduced Resurrect cooldown timer and can fly around at will. This gives her a more distinct function that adds to how dynamic she is while also requiring strategy over which people she should resurrect on the field.
But as the ultimate changed, the Resurrection feature had a longer cooldown time in general. Also, Mercy would only be able to resurrect one person at a time. The cooldown timer would also be reset when the Valkyrie feature is triggered.
A new change is coming to Valkyrie to make her a little more useful to players. This would entail the Resurrection feature being adjusted to be a little more functional for most players.
Her ultimate has been updated to where it will not reset or reduce the Resurrection cooldown. It also doubles the range of the Resurrection feature. This in turn gives Mercy extra power when aiming to restore players who have fallen on the field.
A player will still have to be relatively close to someone to resurrect that person and only one player can be revived at a time. Still, this change to Valkyrie makes her a more valuable figure to have in regular competition as she aims to heal more people and be to a better benefit for all players.
Since she is a natural healer, Mercy has been a popular figure among Overwatch teams. Many other healers could be utilized as well including Ana, Zenyatta and Lucio but the simplicity of Mercy makes her an ideal figure for some teams.
Her powers also make her one of the top targets among opponents as taking her out often results in a team being a little more vulnerable. Still, her functionality has a shorter range than what Ana has. It does not cover a radius like Lucio nor does it stick with people like what Zenyatta’s powers can do. Even with this, Mercy is still a popular figure for how well she can help others in the field.
As of now, the change to Mercy is not available in esports competition or other regular forms of play. It is only available through the public test forums run by Blizzard. This is the section of the game where people can voluntarily test out changes to characters and other new features offered throughout the game.
The change in general may make an impact on how Mercy may be used in future esports competitions. This especially comes as Mercy has been a prominent option among teams that are looking for dedicated healers. People who are looking to bet on future esports events will need to take a look at what can happen with Mercy in the future and how such changes being made to her might develop and make a real impact.
