The 2017 League of Legends College Championship has officially received its format developed by Riot Games. This format will entail ten teams from colleges around the United States. The two best teams in five separate regions will compete in the championship.
Four of the regions are divided up by geography. The fifth is for the Big Ten. More than half of the schools in this prominent college athletics conference are fielding League of Legends teams for the event. Ohio State and Purdue are among those schools participating. Not all Big Ten schools are competing at Penn State was not very committed to the process.
There are two stages to be used in this program. There will be a group wild card stage with the second-best teams in each region competing. The three best teams in that competition will go on to the bracket stage. The top teams in each region will automatically qualify for the bracket stage. The first round will feature best-of-three matches while best-of-five matches will be used throughout the rest of the event.
There are no prize pools in this championship event. The money will be used in regional championships. This has entailed some controversy over how it is to be managed.
The event will start on April 1 and run through May 29. The championship will be held at the LCS Battle Arena in Los Angeles. Seedings for the tournament in general will be announced based on how the five individual regions go along in competition in the next few weeks.
