Hearthstone players will have to watch for a few brand new Hearthstone expansions that could influence the esports world in the coming year. Three new expansions will entail new features while also eliminating a few older cards.
The three expansions are a key part of the Year of the Mammoth. Three expansions will entail 130 cards at a time as card packs will no longer be alternated.
The first expansion will entail a few cards from Blackrock Mountain, the Grand Tournament and League of Explorers being eliminated. Six other cards will be placed in the Hall of Fame, thus making them unavailable for Standard play. These include the Azure Drake, Conceal and Ice Lance cards.
The three Hearthstone expansions will start coming out during the second quarter of the year. Blizzard has not stated anything about how those expansions are to work. Players expect the first set to be released in April because other expansions in recent time were released in that calendar month.
Blizzard is aiming to host some Wild tournaments in the future. These would entail all cards in the entire series. This could directly influence esports tournaments by adding a brand new way for people to compete with each other. This comes as a Wild tournament will feature many cards that have been retired from Standard competitions long ago.
On a related note, a new hero will be introduced alongside these expansions. The Rogue class hero Maiev Shadowsong will be released at some point in the year as well.
