Gerard Pique Announces His Move into the eSports Industry

The trend of professional sports organizations becoming a part of eSports industry has been on the rise for the last couple of years. French football club Paris Saint-German, Russian football club Anzhi, German football club Schalke 04, and NBA franchise Philadelphia 76ers are only some of the professional sports organizations that have already become a part of the eSports industry by forming their own eSports teams competing not only in FIFA and NBA eSports tournaments but rather in Dota 2, League of Legends and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive eSports tournaments.

However, professional sports organizations are not the only ones from the standard sports that participate in the eSports industry. Professional athletes, individually, are also known for making their move into the eSports world. Some of those athletes are Rodger Saffold, the L.A. Rams offensive lineman, Rick Fox, three-time NBA champion, Shaquille O’Neal, one of the NBA’s greatest, Kobe Bryant, another NBA greatest, and many others who have also invested in their eSports teams competing in many different competitions.

Gerard Pique’s Announcement

The FC Barcelona defender Gerard Pique caused a lot of attention with his announcement of his new project on Twitter. The mysterious announcement said that he is looking for professionals with big enthusiasm for eSports and football. Besides that, this announcement also revealed that his latest project will be called efootball.pro and according to his words this project will be working towards creating a new future of football in the world of eSports.

The rumors about Pique making this move have been present for quite some time, but nothing was confirmed until a couple of days ago when Pique tweeted this announcement. However, his announcement on Twitter did not reveal many important details. It was not revealed what involvement will Pique have in that project and who will be the main people behind the project. What is known is that Pique is looking for professional video game players who will be competing in FIFA or ProEvolution Soccer eSports tournaments.

While the rumors about Pique making this kind of move were confirmed by this tweet, there were also some other rumors about Pique’s teammates also joining the eSports industry. The biggest rumors concerned Neymar and his future eSports projects, but that has not yet been confirmed. However, the fact is that more and more players are venturing into the eSports industry because it provides a completely new experience.

Besides that, since the numbers are showing that the eSports are growing from one year to another and that the revenues are increasing with each year, the move to the eSports world is also one the best business moves that a person can make in today’s world. Gerard Pique and many other professional athletes and professional sports organizations have realized that and they are already part of this new world. For those players who become a part of this project, this will be the unique opportunity to show what they can do and to participate in the making the history because this will be yet another step in eSports gaining popularity in comparison to the standard sports.
