ESL One: Cologne 2017 will be one of the biggest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments this year. Because of that, it is no wonder that many CS:GO teams have expressed their interest in getting an invite for the Main Event.
However, as it is clear to all of those who follow the happenings in the world of eSports, only small number of teams will receive an invitation. ESL has previously revealed the names of seven teams that have already received the direct invite. Just yesterday, ESL has announced another team that will be going directly to the Main Event. That team is G2 eSports.
One of the Toughest CS:GO Events in Recent History
The format of the competition will feature 12 teams who received direct invites. With eight of those twelve being revealed now, we cannot but think that this will be one of the toughest Counter-Strike: Global Offensive tournaments in the last couple of years.
G2 eSports is often described as the French Super Team, and their records in the last ten matches show that they are on the good path of becoming one of the best CS:GO teams in the world. In their last ten matches, they were defeated in only two while they managed to win in eight. This is a record that might be compared to those of Astralis or FaZe Clan.
G2 eSports will be joining previously announced seven teams that got the direct invitation. These teams are Virtus.pro, Ninjas in Pyjamas, Fnatic, North, SK Gaming, FaZe Clan, and Natus Vincere.
Interestingly, Astralis has announced that they will be skipping this event to prepare for the upcoming tournaments because they are focused on winning three Major titles in a row. Despite Astralis not participating, this tournament promises to be very interesting and feature some truly amazing matches.
G2 eSports Looking for Their Chance
For G2 eSports, this will not be the first time that they will compete at ESL One: Cologne 2017 because they also participated in the last year’s event. However, last year, they participated as a Challenger team, and they could not reach one of the first eight positions at the tournament.
According to the G2 statement, that is a big motivation for them for coming back. They seem to be much stronger now than last year and they want to improve the impression that they had left during the last year’s tournament. Together with other teams, G2 eSports Counter-Strike: Global Offensive team will be competing for the share of the $1,000,000 prize pool.
SK Gaming Looking to Defend the Title
Last year, SK Gaming proved to be the best CS:GO team at this tournament. They will be back this year in an attempt to win the title once again. In their final match last year, they defeated Team Liquid for the title. However, Team Liquid has not received an invite for this tournament yet. Many commentators and analysts are expecting that will happen very soon as it would be very hard to imagine this tournament without the likes of Team Liquid.
